Kamala for President

Billy Joe Shaver says in a song That I love to play “I’m just an old lump of coal, But I’ll be a diamond someday.”   Well, coal can’t become a diamond  Because their difference is profound  Cut and polish a rough diamond though Brilliance and beauty will abound   Democrats have polished their diamond For all the world to see  Kamala Harris had her coming out At the Convention of the DNC   Not long ago, she was seen As a drag on the ticket In true Brer Rabbit fashion She got them to throw her in that thicket   It’s a political Ugly Duckling story She is now a lovely swan Directed by Democratic Leadership Biden passed her the baton   Central theme of the Convention Carried out with no abate “No policies or positions needed As long as we have Trump to hate”   The vibes were good, the joy high Her election is well on-track The Harris campaign slogan is “FORWARD - We are not going back”   Not back to where? one might ask Her long-standing pro...

Has President Biden Gone FIIGMO?

I’m wondering if President Biden After leaving the presidential race Has developed job attitude issues Since Kamala took his place   He always spent a lot of time At his homes in Delaware  Lately it just seems  They’ve become his full-time lairs   He hasn’t been in DC much I know it is vacation season  The fact that he’s less visible though  Makes me wonder if FIIGMO is the reason   FIIGMO is an old military term  Related to a soldier being reassigned  He neglects his current job Because his future is on his mind   What does the acronym FIIGMO mean? Well, the cleaned-up version reads “Forget It, I’ve Got My Orders” Someone else can do those deeds   You can’t really blame him If FIIGMO is his state of mind Deserted by Party Leadership  He was left behind    Now, Kamala is the star Looks like she runs the show Although he is still the President  No one is asking for old Joe

Amsterdam's Red-Light District

Lynda and I were in Amsterdam   Early evening in Old Town Walked into the Red-Light District Just to look around   No brothel signs or markers Just three red lights above some doors Suggesting companionship for hire I guess, that and so much more   Could see the profile of a woman Through some gauzy reddish curtains Slightest indication given About what we knew for certain    Atmosphere subdued and quiet Not like the streets nearby Where cannabis, vape and edibles Let you pick your way to fly   We were there too early Area was almost deserted  Opportunities and possibilities  At that time were quietly skirted    Don’t know what I expected  Didn’t plan to venture there Not trying to conduct any business  We were just a curious pair   It was a very low-key adventure  Uneventful, one would say  Guess that’s all one can expect At the wrong time of the day

I'm Jogging Like Joe Biden

I h ave recognized a fact That I see no need in hiding If you see me trying to jog I'll remind you of Joe Biden   I’m jogging like President Biden  And I mean no disrespect  But for guys hovering around the age of eighty It’s about what you’d expect    You’ve all seen Joe jogging  And you know just what I mean Ancient guy trying to look athletic  It’s not a pretty scene   Joe hobbles along for thirty feet or so Like he could go a mile Jogs up to the podium on the stage  And cracks a great big smile   I tried to jog the other day But didn’t make it far Was in Home Depot's parking lot  Headed for my car   Had on my brand-new running shoes That are "cushioned like a cloud" If the company saw me jogging They’d ask I not say their name out loud   Every joint was shouting My heart said “what the hay” My legs wouldn't participate Body refused to play   Like Joe, I made it about thirty feet Before I had to walk No stage, no p...

Ex-wives

As I near the age of eighty And reflect on things in life A phenomenon I’ve noticed  Involves a man and his former wife   I’ve had some friends long married Had their fill of connubial bliss Split stuff fifty-fifty And said we’re through with this   There are some former couples Who hardly need a nudge  To hold on to animosity And forever bear a grudge   But other former couples Despite their later leaning Realize their early married life Had purpose and deep meaning   For Men, sometime after their divorce  Rid of all their strife They find themselves nostalgic And think of their ex-wife   Sometimes the ex-wife feels the same After all, they are former mates And before you know it They are going out on dates   So, they start the process over And, again, become good friends  Some of them even remarry Throwing caution to the wind   I have even heard of couples  Who’ve married each other more than twice To me, that seems ex...
