Is A Cashless Society Coming?

Have you ever heard the saying  “Your money’s no good here”? Used to mean you were being comped Usually, by someone who held you dear   I’ve been to a few businesses lately  Where they wouldn’t take my money  They wouldn’t take yours either  Even though that may sound funny   They weren’t giving things away  “Comped” wasn’t on their mind Only acceptable form of payment  Was of the plastic kind   U.S. currency is legal tender  Everywhere but there You must use credit cards or debit cards  Or take your business elsewhere    When I was growing up Cards were suspect, cash was king Some places have done a total flip It now takes plastic to hear “ka-ching”   Some say this foretells the future  Cash money will go away  All transactions will be electronic  Bank account required to pay

Rules to Live By

Don't go shopping when you're hungry Don't eat yellow snow Some rules always apply  No matter when and where you go   Never take a laxative and sleeping pill Before you go to sleep You may find when you wake up  You are in something deep   Never lick a steak knife No matter how enticing Remember that it’s main purpose Is for cutting and for slicing   No matter how nice the hand soap smells And the fragrance how it lingers When you walk out of a public restroom Don’t ever sniff your fingers   When it comes to stocks Buy low, sell high, they say That’s everybody’s goal Doesn’t always work that way   Don’t go out with tennis players Not even on a whim And never fall for one Love means zero to them   A Best Friend is a special friend  Even dearer when life is shoddy A friend will help you move  A Best Friend will move a body   Treasure all your friends True friends are hard to find When you find you have one Protect that f...

Plant Where You Will Bloom

Someone posted a metaphor for life On Facebook, using the price of water A pint bottle of it at Costco  Will cost you a quarter   Same bottle at the grocery store  Will cost you twice as much Buy it at a convenience store  Near two dollars will be the touch   Buy the same bottle in a hotel  Three dollars will be the price Five dollars in an airport  Probably more if you want ice   No change to brand or bottle  Only difference is the place Environment affects the value  It is a fact that we must face   Same is true with real estate Value is tied to the location This concept can help you personally  To improve your situation    If you feel undervalued  And your worth is not esteemed  Maybe alter your circumstances  Rearrange the scene    Don’t be afraid to change your life  Move on to something new Associate with people  Who appreciate and value you

Young Love

Was talking to a young couple Who are very much in love They’ve lived together for three years And they thank the stars above   That they came together  Living in a state of bliss An opportunity in life  They’re glad they didn’t miss   Yet, as we talked about their relationship  And both got more relaxed They both admitted honestly Their bliss is sometimes cracked   They go through periods Where they don’t much like each other And find themselves arguing Like a sister and a brother    Though they think they love each other They are starting to have some doubt That their relationship is something  They can’t live without   Although I didn’t say it It did cross my mind They have the benefits of marriage  Without the legal bind   About half of first-time marriages fail It’s just the hand of fate But it usually takes ten years or so For the love to deteriorate    And to dissolve the marriage  Is a sad a...

60th THS Reunion, Class of 1962

Was down in Tuscaloosa Not just driving through There for a reunion Of the Class of 62   Sixty years since graduation A lifetime more or less Those able to be here Know that they are blessed   Jim Stringer, our Class President Organized and ran the show That this is a lifetime job At seventeen, he didn't know    After graduation We all went our separate ways Yet, most of us still cherish Memories of our high school days   It really is those memories That make us want to see Former friends and classmates Remember things that used to be   Some of the girls are pretty As they've ever been But most of us resemble An older next of kin   Some of the guys are trim and buff And easily get around Others are just happy  To be on this side of the ground   Best of all we mingled At a reception and a lunch It really was a great time With such a friendly bunch   We closed with a silent prayer For classmates who've passed away And we thought of ...

Happy 80th Birthday, Tuscaloosa High School Class of 1962

Some people say that birthdays   Are really good for you Those with the most live longest Undeniably, that is true   In 2024 most of us will turn forty For the second time! That sounds better than eighty Which says we are past our prime   It has been over sixty years Since our short time at THS A happy connection we all share Along with the memories there we each possess   Eighty is a major milestone  An event to celebrate For people of our age Candles cost more than the cake   So, get that bonfire going  On your day in twenty-four Have a very happy birthday May you have many, many more

Downsizing

Thinking about downsizing   We’re getting to that point   Where we don’t need all this room Maybe it’s time to leave this joint   Forty-five hundred square feet Of which we live in less than half What will we do with all our stuff? We ask, with a nervous laugh    I have started looking around the house  For things that we might sell We can’t take all this stuff with us To a smaller place to dwell   Have this fourteen-foot step ladder That has never been abused  Its top three steps never stepped on  So, it has never been fully used   How about that old stand-mixer That never made a cake And that large food processor  Bought for recipes we didn’t make   Then there's that pressure washer? And that carpet cleaner too Throw in that big old pot Since we rarely make a stew   Do we really need five sofas? Three overstuffed leather chairs  The over-flowing closets with Clothes and shoes we never wear   How about the four ...
