Doctor, My Eyes

“Doctor, my eyes have seen the years”
Goes the song by Jackson Browne
That lyric hits close to home
Cause my eyelids are trending down

It’s not totally unexpected

For someone who’s near my age

But the curtain dropping down

Hinders my view of the stage

Asked my doctor recently

If this is something he could cure

He said he wouldn’t touch it

But others would, for sure

He gave me several names

Of doctors he would trust

Said while insurance isn’t always friendly

Sometimes surgery is a must

Surgeon sent photos and a note to Medicare

To see if they'd carry part of the load

They didn't even hesitate and said

"Let's move on down that road"

Doctor says a benefit of the surgery

It will make you look a decade younger

Trying to look almost 70

Not something for which I hunger

Like putting new headlight lenses

On a car that’s old and ratty

You still have an old car

Small portion of it natty

I’m not a fan of surgery

And much averse to pain

But vision and other improvements

Could be a worthwhile gain

I guess that I'll have to do it

Trust the surgery decision's sound

Because my wife has got my back

And won't let me turn around
